AI gives project management its source of truth

In project management, we have an interesting opening: unlike engineering or design, there is no canonical tool that owns the discipline's source of truth. Engineers have GitHub. Designers have Figma. In PM, knowledge lives across documents, emails, and institutional memory that tends to leave when people do.

PMIS — project management information systems — has always existed as the formal answer. So have product requirement documents and their variants. Confluence is the most common implementation, and its reputation for being high-maintenance and unread is earned. AI is the thing that changes that equation: nobody has to maintain or read it manually anymore.

Good housekeeping for PMIS means treating decisions as first-class objects: documents that record not just what was decided but why, linked to the artefact that each decision produced. I'm curious to see examples of how this scales, but I don't see a fundamental obstacle to migrating Confluence documentation databases to a structured system managed by agents, teams of agents, or process graphs.

Yours, at the end of the queue,
Zhenia
