Why I never split my vault
Often we create our own problems by splitting our data collection across many different resources: different tools, or different vaults inside Obsidian. I'm quite curious why this is supposed to be helpful.
To be honest, I wonder why you would want to split the vault at all. Fifteen years in, I've been diligently collecting scraps of information from my reading and other research into one singular vault, which is by now quite big. My format has stayed the same the whole time: a reason written across the top of the card, explaining to future me why I decided to put that specific note into the vault. With time, I found out that I never really use folders to organise my notes.
To me, the main use case of a PKMS is that it can lead you to unexpected correlations in the data points you collect. The best way to get there is to mix everything up and keep tags or keywords for filtering, for the moments when a specifically coded dataset is required.
