The ideas that won't let go are already doing the work

The worry is familiar: you're at a bus stop or walking the dog when an idea arrives, and by the time you're back at a keyboard, it's gone. Voice memos help, but only if they get turned into text quickly — it's very difficult to find relevant material buried in audio files. You don't need a dedicated app for the transcription. Ask whichever AI agent you use to write a script that monitors the folder where you save your voice notes and converts them using something like faster-whisper.

  • Build your own automation and you get to design the templates. Memos come out formatted and named exactly the way you need them, without any extra filing.
  • Take it further: have the transcripts automatically logged and interlinked in your PKM, surfacing on the right tag filters when you're looking for something specific.
  • The more interesting question is what those flash ideas are actually worth. The ones that matter tend not to leave you alone — you find yourself chewing on them for weeks before you're ready to write anything up. The ones that vanish at the bus stop probably would have vanished regardless.

I've had one of those persistent ideas running for a few months now (about converting my agent work into proper agentic infrastructure, even though I use agents all the time). I haven't found more than about five minutes at a stretch to actually sit down and work through it. In those gaps I sketch diagrams with a pencil and paper, or watch something relevant on double speed to inform myself about how the framework might be structured.

What I've noticed is that I'm not really waiting for time. I'm waiting for the idea to finish forming in my head into a shape that's good enough. By the time I actually sit down and make time for it, it's already crystallised clearly, and I'm super confident in exactly what I'm going to do.

Closing the loop,
Zhenia
